We’ve been to Coffee Institute in Walkerville a few times, so when we heard about Little Institute Cafe, which I believe is a smaller spin off, we figured we had to check it out. Some of the menu items look very familiar, so if I’m wrong feel free to correct me, but there are definitely a few crossover favourites. We popped in one Sunday for brunch to see how it stacked up. Straight away you can tell it’s a more compact operation. The menu isn’t as broad or detailed as its bigger sibling, but honestly, what they do offer they do well. The brunch plate we ordered was fresh, vibrant and beautifully balanced. Creamy avo, bright salad, perfectly cooked eggs and that silky sauce on the side that somehow makes everything taste better. It felt light but still satisfying. The burger was equally solid. Soft sesame bun, juicy filling, proper portion of chips on the side. Simple, done right. What I liked most was that nothing felt rushed or thrown together. It had that familiar Coffee Institute polish, just in a slightly more streamlined setting. Would we come back? Easily. The only hiccup is that we usually brunch on Sundays and I think they’re closed then, which is mildly devastating. But when we can line up our schedule with their opening hours, we’ll absolutely be back.
